The oldest continuing freeski contest celebrates it’s 10th birthday. For that reason, many athletes and spectators from the Freeski Scene gather from 7.-11 of March, for the third time in a row in Zell am See-Kaprun to choose their champ. There is sure to be certain that brilliant action will go down when the best freeskiers in the world battle amongst themselves at 2500m sea level, through the Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark. Not only the athletes, also the spectators will behold the breathtaking excitement and beauty that the Freeski Circus of Zell am See-Kaprun has to offer. Starting with thenight-show and the legendary parties, there are many more reasons to highlight this weekend in your calendar, and be a part of the biggest birthday party this winter!

Der Workshop: Red Bull Trick it with Mä
Markus Keller, den seine Freunde «Mä» nennen, ist ein unbestrittener Meister der Piste, die auf den ersten Blick nichts hergibt. Jeder Schwung sieht nicht nur gut aus, sondern sieht auch nach sehr viel Spass. Und diese Freude will der 29-Jährige an die junge Boarder-Generation weitergeben. «Red Bull Trick it with Mä» ist der Name des Snowboard-Workshops, in dem nichts vorgegeben und alles möglich ist. 40 Snowboarder zwischen 13 und 19 Jahren erhalten einen Tag lang Tricknachhilfe und Inspiration von Markus Keller. Das wilde Rudel springt und rotiert am 24. Februar im Gebiet Grindelwald First. Red Bull Trick it with Mä ist offen für alle, die Freude am Snowboarden haben.

Der Contest: Red Bull Jibmunks
Am darauf folgenden Tag, dem 25. Februar findet das gleiche Spektakel in «Wettkampfform» statt: Red Bull Jibmunks versammelt die Freunde der Pistentricks ebenfalls auf dem First ob Grindelwald. Der Wettkampf beginnt mit einer Jam-Session über mehrere Runden in den Kategorien Rookie, Open und Girls. Parcours ist ein nur leicht aufgefrischter Pistenabschnitt. Die besten Fahrer qualifizieren sich für das Finale mit den Pros, wie Markus Keller. Die Legenden, darunter auch Jamie Lynn, jibben ausser Konkurrenz und spassen mit. Eine Jury macht Tricks zu Punkten und bestimmt so, wer Red Bull Jibmunks gewinnt. «An den Sieg denke ich gar nicht», sagt Markus Keller, der «Godfather» des ungewöhnlichen Contests. «Ich freue mich einfach auf einen Tag fahren mit Freunden und bin gespannt, was die Jungs zeigen.» Bleibt anzufügen, dass auch Mädels herzlich willkommen sind und in ihrer eigenen Wertung starten. Gekrönt wird das eintägige Kreativsnowboarden mit der Red Bull Jibmunks Party in Grindelwald.

Durch das Revival vom Teamevent, konnten Zahlreiche Teams ihre Kreativität in Verkleidung und Teamchoreographien unter Beweis stellen was in diesem Jahr auf keinen Fall fehlen darf. Ein Teil des Parks wird speziell präpariert und nur für den Contest freigegeben!

The Winter Dew Tour continues this weekend with its second stop of the season when the Pantech Invitational hits Killington, Vermont.  The top athletes in snowboarding and freeskiing will descend on one of the East Coast’s biggest resorts to battle it out for points toward the Dew Cup.
Louie Vito comes to Killington on the heels of a second place finish at the Winter Dew Tour’s first stop in Breckenridge, Colorado.  Eager to repeat his championship performance in the superpipe during the 2011 season, Vito will be aiming to redeem himself with the top spot in Vermont.  The slopestyle course will be crowded with internationally recognized snowboarders, from triple-corking Canadian Mark McMorris to the Norwegian winner of the Nike Open, Gjermund Braaten, as well as a large group of American-bred riders fighting through the last chance qualifiers.

Competition in the men’s freeski events will be sure to deliver excitement.  After combating an injury in Breckenridge, Simon Dumont will take to the superpipe looking to dethrone reigning champ Kevin Rolland.  Tom Wallisch will attempt to go two for two in Winter Dew Tour ski slopestyle wins this season, bringing huge air and smooth landings to a slopestyle run that is sure to defy the laws of physics.  Last year’s Killington winner Bobby Brown, along with Alex Schlopy and Nick Goepper, will be among the top skiers intending to push him off the podium.

The top names in women’s freeskiing will have their Winter Dew Tour season debut at the Pantech Invitational with bigger stakes than in years past.  For the first time in Dew Tour history, women freeskiers will compete towards a Dew Cup.  Devin Logan, who took the freeski halfpipe world by storm in her breakout rookie year in 2011, will bring her signature style to Bear Mountain, while young up-and-comer Kaya Turski will be showing off on the slopestyle course.  Several women with eyes on the 2014 Olympics are also headed to the Pantech Invitational, including Grete Eliassen, Brita Sigourney and Ashley Battersby.

In addition to action-packed competitions, the weekend will also include a Friday night VIP party at the Wobbly Barn, a well-known Killington watering hole.  The night will feature a live DJ set from RAC, the Portland-based cutting edge duo of Andre Allen Anjos and Karl Kling, spinning original remixes and party favorites.  Party entry will be $10 for those 21-and-over.

Opening Day of the Volcom Stone Peanut Butter and Rail Jam European Season 2012 is Saturday, January 14th, and all the resorts have their rails, stair sets, ledges, wall rides and other jib obstacles ready.
Approximately 10,000 snowboarders have already been let lose into their natural habitat of the mountains, and are awaiting Opening Day while double-checking their gear.

“Opening Day is an exciting time for all snowboarders, and they can expect some excellent PBRJ rail setups throughout Europe” says Mr B, Snow Park Ranger.

Volcom’s PBRJ will stop in nearly every European country with a mountain. Entry is free as always, no needs for a license or anything like that!
There are four divisions to choose from: 15 and under, 16 and over, Girls and Open. From beginners to pros, everyone is welcome, so we hope to see you on the hill shortly!
On top of the good times, there are tons of prizes to be reeled in, with cash prizes for the Open division winners, and the top 5 of each category will qualify for the European PBRJ Championships in Avoriaz, France (12,000€ prize money, Sunday April 8, 2012).

In addition to this, at each stop, Electric Visual will award the best trick or “Gooeyest Move” with a cash prize. They will continue to boost the prizes with goggles and sunglasses as well. Nitro also offers a new Marc Swoboda Swindle 152 to win for each contest.

The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is Volcom’s amateur snowboard contest series.
The goal of the series is to give something back to the kids. (Beware of copies out there, this is the original!) Deviating from the established way of running snowboard contests, we came up with a fresh format. Instead of having three rails in a row, we put them side-by-side to create a rail zone. This boosts the energy level and fun nature of the contest because everyone is together, riding, hiking, and watching in a big group. There are 4 divisions: Girls, 15 & under, 16 & over and Open. Winners from every division go home with loads of prizes while the Open division winners receive prizes as well as cold hard cash. The contest runs in a jam format so there are no scheduled runs. You can hit each of the rails as many times as you want during your 20-minute heat. Judges only score tricks you land, so you don’t need to worry about falling. The event is absolutely free to enter, on a first come first served basis, and boasts tons of free prizes, free drinks, free food and Peanut Butter & Jam sandwiches! Also, Everyone who enters walks away with some prizes!!

am Samstag, 21. Januar von 12.00 – 01.00 Uhr
und Sonntag 22. Januar 10.00 – 18.00 Uhr
in der Spinnihalle, Langgasse 40, in Baar

Kinder ab 8 Jahren bis junge Erwachsene können ihre Fähigkeiten im Skaten oder Inlinen unter Beweis stellen. Eine Funbox und verschiedene Streetelemente wie Rails und Curbs können benutzt werden. Am Samstag wird um 15 Uhr ein Skateworkshop für Anfänger angeboten. Um zu zeigen, was man beim Skaten alles erreichen kann, zeigt ein Skater von doodah um 16 und 21 Uhr sein Können. Ebenfalls gibt es die Möglichkeit neue Skateboards von doodah auszuprobieren. Ab 20 Uhr ist ein DJ vor Ort der für die richtige Stimmung sorgt. Auch Zuschauer sind willkommen.
Für das kulinarische Wohl der Sportler sowie den Zuschauern sorgt der Kochclub mit seinen Snacks und die BlauBaar verwöhnt mit fruchtigen Drinks.

The Winter Dew Tour will kick off its fourth season this week in Breckenridge, Colorado, December 15-18.  The weekend’s events will bring the top names in snowboard and freeski superpipe and slopestyle to the mountain, while helping to celebrate Breckenridge’s 50th anniversary.
