Tony Hawk & friends set fire to Mumbai for the first ever skate demo in...

Tony Hawk & friends set fire to Mumbai for the first ever skate demo in India

Quiksilver’s Tony Hawk, the greatest skateboarder of all time, tonight made an astonishing performance in Mumbai for the first skateboard event ever organized in India. In front of almost 5000 spectators massed at Dhirubhai Ambani International School Grounds. Tony Hawk, along with his friends Kevin Staab, Andy MacDonald, Sam Bosworth and young prodigy Mitchie Brusco, surpassed themselves to entertain the massive and enthusiastic crowd packed up around one of the world’s biggest portable vert ramp especially built up for the show by Quiksilver.

Tony & friends all displayed their best manoeuvres to the sound of UK deck star Scott Nixon : airs and lip tricks in both old school and modern styles. The 8 time skateboarding world champion and 21 X Games medals owner, Andy MacDonald, threw massive his 360 backside boneless and fx rodeo lean and achieved several doubles along with Tony.
On his side, the birdman nailed perfect 720 and a mc twist over the 10 feet channel. He also made several spectacular attempts for a 900°, supported by the huge crowd shouting his name.

Tony Hawk : “With thousands of kids watching at us today, I was wondering this event would maybe change the life of some of them. I deeply hope that skateboarding will grow in India. When I see the energy and desire of all these children, I imagine that maybe, in a few years, one of them will become one of the best skateboards in the world.”
“It’s insane to think that every single manoeuvre you land is the fist ever achieved on the Indian soil. It’s really a huge motivation. The Indian peoples craze really pushed me to do my best. I tried to land the 900° many times but unfortunately I could not make it. It’s a good reason to come back here !”

This amazing demo showcasing Tony Hawk, the most recognized action-sports figure in the world, also gave Quiksilver an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate the launch of the brand in India and the recent openings of the first 3 stores in the country in a 5 months period.

Resultate:
1 Andy Scott (UK)

Andy Scott remporte le Vans off the Bowl Contest de Saint-Gall !

Sensation perfekt: Ambühl und Mahler landen Schweizer Doppelsieg

english version below

September statt.

Attracted by t-shirt temperatures, thousands flocked to Landiwiese Park to attend the inauguration of the first Megaramp on European soil on the opening day of freestyle.ch. City Councillor Gerold Lauber, who officially inaugurated the new skateboard ramp, along with the freestyle sports world attended qualification contests that stood for the level visitors can expect from the finals on freestyle.ch’s Sunday. Winners of the qualifiers are Snowboarder Marko Grilc (SLO), Freeskier Jossi Wells (NZE), FMXer Dany Torres (ESP) and Skateboarder Adam Taylor (USA). BMXer Vince Byron (AUS) ended up crossover.champ.

It was an emotional moment for the freestyle sports family when Zurich’s City Councillor Gerold Lauber inaugurated the first MegaRamp to stand on European soil. Lauber himself was visibly moved and fascinated at the same time: «I am thrilled with this freestyle community. It is wonderful to see how peaceful the atmosphere here at Landiwiese Park is and to feel the consuming passion this audience has for freestyle sports,» said Lauber «If I were young today, I would probably be a freeskier.» The inauguration was followed by a skateboarding contest that, according to qualification winner Adam Taylor (USA), was just a taste of what visitors can expect from the finals on Sunday. «Elliot Sloan, Pierre-Luc Gagnon and I who have made the podium have definitely not yet pulled our hardest tricks – the finals will go off,» said Taylor. To the surprise of everyone, the skateboarding legend Bob Burnquist (BRA) didn’t make it to the semi finals. Burnquist, who arrived only on Friday evening in Zurich, had issues with the lack of training as well as the time change. Alongside the skateboarders, the European premiere of the MegaRamp also brought BMX riders back to Landiwiese Park for a demo on the ramp. Being part of the legendary Crossover Session, Vince Byron (AUS) made the best out of the comeback, convinced the crowd the most and ended up with the popular crossover.champ title.

Impressive riding levels in freeskiing and snowboarding
The qualifying competition in freeskiing was pleasing – especially from a Swiss perspective. Switzerland’s finest Freeskier, Elias Ambühl, and the 15-year-old Kai Mahler qualified with equal points on 3rd place. Not any surprising for Ambühl’s case, freestyle.ch rookie Mahler doubtlessly managed a surprise coup with this strong appearance, equally showing why the Freeski scene touts him as an exceptional talent. «For me, a dream already came true when I received the invitation to freestyle.ch. It’s simply amazing that I can now show my best freesking», said Mahler. The New Zealander Jossi Wells won the qualification in freeskiing with a newly rotated switch 1080°, a trick that has never been landed in a contest before. The snowboarding contest was dominated by the oldest in the field, Marko Grilc from Slovenia, Halldor Helgason (ISL) and the Swiss Christian Haller placed 2nd and 3rd. Zurich’s local hero Iouri Podladtchikov did not make the cut after a heavy bail which is why all eyes are on Haller now. «I will represent Switzerland the best I can,» Haller promised to the Swiss crowd. «I feel good and I really like the jump this year.»

A class of his own: FMX rider Dany Torres
As expected, Spaniard Dany Torres won the qualifiers in FMX. Torres, who has just won the Red Bull X-Fighters tour, is currently in top form, and showed all his class to the thrilled Swiss crowd. The Swiss Mat Rebeaud qualified sixth and thus only slightly for the finals. Rebeaud celebrated his comeback at freestyle.ch after a break due to an injury. «I am extremely happy that I am fit enough to start here at home in Zurich although I’m not yet back to my old form,» said Rebeaud. The semi finals and finals on Sunday will show whether the winners of the qualifiers will be able to repeat their strong appearance, the impressive performance of everyone promises the highest level of freestyle sports in all disciplines. freestyle.ch is streamed live on the event’s webpage up from 1pm local time.

Mini-MegaRamp skateboarding and BMX will make their European debut at freestyle.ch, a freestyle sports event...

Mini-MegaRamp skateboarding and BMX will make their European debut at freestyle.ch, a freestyle sports event in Zurich, Switzerland, on Sept. 24-25.

Although MegaRamp contests have been around in the U.S. for years, this will be the first major MegaRamp contest in Europe, albeit on a mini-MegaRamp.

The brainchild of Danny Way, the MegaRamp structure was first unveiled in The DC Shoes Video in 2004 and at the X Games’ Skateboard Big Air that same year. The X Games first held a BMX MegaRamp contest in 2006.

“Our goal is to keep freestyle.ch original and innovative,” says Erwin Flury, head of event at freestyle.ch. “By launching a European premiere in the skateboarding and BMX category we are doing just that through our collaboration with the American event developers MegaRamp Productions.”

The smaller version of a full-scale MegaRamp structure will be installed at Zurich’s Landiwiese Park for the debut, which will include a skate contest and a BMX demo.

Skateboarders Andy McDonald, Jake Brown, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Sandro Dias and Adam Taylor have all committed to competing in the event. BMX athletes Vince Byron and Morgan Wade will be competing in a multi-discipline crossover event as well as riding in the BMX demo on Saturday afternoon.

“I am super excited to have mini-MegaRamp coming to freestyle.ch,” said Adam Taylor, who took silver in Skateboard Big Air at X Games 17 in July. “It’s my favorite ramp to skate and it’s now at my favorite event in Europe. It’s going to be an amazing contest this year.” via espn

all VIDEOS

Ryan Decenzo Destroys Skate Street Course for Win and Overall Lead

In what the riders were calling out as one of the best courses the Dew Tour has ever built, the guys were throwing trick after trick as proof.

In his first big pro contest, Kechaud Johnson landed a switch backside 5050 down the ledge, a kicklfip backside ollie over the A frame and looked solid out there. The tricks kept flowing during his solo run and jam session and he advanced as the top rider in the 6-man final jam.

Once the final jam was underway, it was Decenzo who got his rhythm going with a nollie heel down the gap, and solid tech tricks while making full use of the course. His intro run, earlier jam and final jam score of 87.18 gave him the win and it also earned him the overall lead for the Dew Cup. When the competition ended, he credited the course with helping him take the win.

“The way they put the whole big section together was good, the hubbas were the right height and the rails were the right height, steepness and length,” Decenzo said. “It was great for progressing and landing tricks consistently.”

Greg Lutzka had a rough time at last month’s Portland Invitational after breaking a board without a spare during the finals, but he redeemed himself at this event. He made Dew Tour history after landing a trick never done in the 6-years of skate competitions, and it was a first for him as well.

“I was super pumped to skate and I got the 270 blunt to 270 out and I’ve never done that,” Lutzka said. “So that was huge right there just for me to progress. That’s what I’m about. I’m about skateboard progression and doing stuff that other people have never done.”

Paul Rodriguez finished in third after a switch frontside flip down the stairs, a switch 360 flip and solid switch and tech tricks throughout the final jamp. That keeps him in the running for the Dew Cup.

—————————————————————————————-

BMX Vert Steven McCann Put the Heat on Bestwick for Win

Jamie Bestwick has 23 career wins in his 7 years on the Dew Tour, and he’s won the overall Dew Cup every season. But at today’s Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge it was Steven McCann’s riding that stole the show.

“You know when things are working, they work out really well, that’s what happened here today,” McCann said.

In his second-to-last run of the superfinal, the run he’d been aiming for all night came together. After a triple tailwhip to flair he finished the run with a no-handed 900. He was so stoked that he even did a little victory dance after grabbing his bike on the flat bottom.

—————————————————————————————-

Kyle Baldock Throws Banger for Win at Alli Rideshop BMX Dirt Big Air

With $5,000 on the line, the guys came out to throw down on the massive jump, and the crowds stuck around to watch it all go down.

The field of riders included Brett Banasiewicz, Kyle Baldock, Zack Warden, Jaie Toohey, Rob Armour and Andy Buckworth and they were going off.
Highlights of the 30-minute jam included Toohey’s flip triple whip and Armour’s nothing to double tailwhip.
Banasiewicz was throwing down hard with a 720 X-up and his signature cash roll that got the fans screaming.
The one guy that was going for broke each and every time was Baldock, who even attempted a double back flip. You could see the determination in him each time he dropped in. It was Baldock’s 360 double downside tailwhip to opposite double tailwhip that took the win in the end.

“I’ve been practicing them a long time at the Unit and I can’t thank my sponsors enough for supporting me,” Baldock said. “To be here is crazy enough, but to win is amazing.”

—————————————————————————————-

Brett Banasiewicz Takes BMX Dirt Win in Heated Finals

It was a heated BMX Dirt final at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, with the lead changing hands between Josh Hult, Brandon Dosch and Dennis Enarson in the first round. Highlights included Hult’s double tailwhip in one direction and another double in the opposite direction, Dosch’s 720 over the last set and Enarson’s suicide double truckdriver.

The contest got more intense and by the end of the second runs, it was defending Dew Cup champ Dosch who had taken over the lead with a double whip over the first set, a turndown across the gap and an opposite 720 in his run. Brett Banasiewicz was sitting in third at the end of that round after getting the highest scored run of the night with a 360 down the bomb drop into a no handed frontflip clap to on the first set, a 720, a double tailwhip and a cash roll to finish things off. He clipped his pedal in his first run and it was obvious he got his rhythm going for the second.

Pierre Luc Gagnon Holds off Shaun White for Skate Vert Win

Bucky Lasek, Shaun White and Pierre-Luc Gagnon were the last three riders to go in the skate vert superfinals – ranked third to first – but it came down to the last runs to decide the podium order. Bucky skated awesome in the 10-man finals. But after advancing to the 5-man superfinals his board got away from him a few times and he wasn’t able to put together the runs he had planned and he finished third with 87.75.

“I just fell short on one last trick before I was going to bring my last tricks,” Lasek said. “My last three tricks were going to be all new and more technical. I was going to do a frontside nollie flip stalefish 360, but I fell two walls before I was going to get a chance to do it.”

Trick Machine Danilo do Rosario Dialed in Skate Street Semis

The skate street course saw a high energy Semi-Final tonight. Danilo Do Rosario stood out among the 22 skaters competing, filling his heat with 20 clean tricks. He consistently hit the handrails and hubbas with a variety of switch tricks, as well as landing a frontside nollie kickflip over the gap.
Mike Mason Lays Out Best Runs of FMX Speed and Style Competition

Carey Hart came out once again to support the Dew Tour and put on the Hart & Huntington Speed and Style competition. The top names in freestyle motocross came out to challenge the part-supercross/part-FMX course in front of a capacity crowd in Salt Lake City.

It was tough to declare a winner between the top names in the sport that came out to compete, but in the end it was Mike Mason who stood on top of the podium, alongside Ronnie Faisst in second and Beau Bamburg in third.

—————————————————————————————-

Malto Stops Huston’s Winning Streak and Becomes 2011 Street League Champion

VIDEO Highlights

The 2011 Street League DC Pro Tour Fueled by Monster Energy has come to a shocking end—after a season of battling injuries Sean Malto, who replaced Tommy Sandoval who was unable to compete due to injury, has beaten out three-peat winner and 2010 Champion Nyjah Huston and the eight other top Street League pros of the season. Skating solidly and consistently all the way to the end, Malto is taking home the $200,000, SLS ring and watch, and the title of 2011 Street League Champion.

Despite the impending Hurricane, the pros took to the course in front of a packed arena a day earlier. Braving torrential rain, heavy winds and shut down transit and major freeways, thousands of loyal fans came out in full force and watched with bated breath while Malto, Huston & Chris Cole battled it out in the Big section. The three went trick for trick, fighting for the top, but in the end it was Malto who came out on top by only 1.9 points

Sean had missed the Seattle stop of the series due to a knee surgery. He then placed forth in his hometown of Kansas City. At the Glendale stop he qualified in 2nd place but was then injured an unable to compete in the Finals. But when it was all said and done Malto pulled through at the Prudential Center to take the overall title of Street League Champion.

“I am thrilled about winning the 2011 street league championship. To be up against the top ten guys of the series and to win after my injury is just an amazing feeling,” said 2011 Street League Champion Sean Malto.

“Our winner-takes-all championship came to a close with a storybook ending,” said Street League Skateboarding Founder, Rob Dyrdek. “Sean came in without missing one trick when it mattered and finally put an end to what was an unreal win streak from Nyjah. All-in-all, the level of skating by the top ten street league pros was simply incredible.”

Results

Everyone brought their A game today in a true battle between the top 10 skaters in the league. Mikey Taylor started strong in the Tech Section with a Frontside Feeble Grind to Frontside Tail Slide. Chaz Ortiz rolled away from an amazing Nollie Bigspin Heel Flip Backside Lip Slide for a 9.3, the highest scored trick in the Tech Section. Paul Rodriguez had a solid day with tricks like a Switch Kick Flip Backside Lip Slide in the Tech Section and a Switch Backside Lip Slide down the Big Section Rail. Chris Cole didn’t let the oversized big section of this contest slow him down. He had two tricks in the 9’s, a Frontside 180 to Switch Feeble Grind and a 360 Flip 50-50 grind. Nyjah Huston started his day with a first try Backside 360 to Frontside Nose Blunt Slide in the Tech Section. He then continued on to do tricks like a Nollie Heel Flip Backside Lip Slide down the Big Section Rail and a Switch Big Spin Heel Flip down the Big Section Stairs. Sean Malto, who came out on top skated casual and consistent as usual, doing an incredible Ollie Over to Frontside Crooked Grind Shove It out on the Tech Section rail. He then put together some of the most solid lines of the contest, like a Switch Feeble Grind on the Line Section Rail followed by a Switch Backside 5-0 Grind on the Bump to Ledge. In the Big Section Sean went 7 for 7 with tricks like a Frontside Crooked Grind down the Rail and a Nollie Backside Nose Grind down the Big Hubba.

Chris Cole – Monster Best Trick – 9.6 – 360 Flip 50-50 Grind down the Big Section Hubba

Chaz Ortiz – Wonka Free Ride winner

Mike Mo Capaldi – Zumiez 24/7 Award

This year, the famous Skateshop KSG (Kitchener) placed their fabulous old school skatepark at our disposal. This technical and roots style outdoor skatepark with a basic setup, was perfect to run a Wild in the Park tourstop. If you pass next time near Bern…check it out.

The park setup got divided in 3 areas, 2-3 Obstacles per area and yeah!…so much possibilities, so much fun. The setup permitted sick and creative runs on a very high level.

VIDEO

50 kids and legends from all over Switzerland attacked our inscription table at 11 am. They almost killed us to get started their practice runs, so we felt like real animal trainers in a cage…and it was hot, very hot. 35 degrees on asphalt, in a city is heavy!

Then at noon it was on…the little kids opened the contest like a hurricane, the big kids finished it like a firework…check all the pics and especially the video in this report…my words would be worthless.

Our speaker Timmy brought a damn good mood in our skate circus arena…thanks Timmy! Pushed by him and the crowd the finalists brought the contest to boil! In and around the aspahlt ghetto, it suddenly became very loud.

The spontaneuous best trick session at the end of the contest killed everybody. Happy but tired was the general feedback…we`re happy about a good day of wild skateboarding. For the prizegiving the „competitors“ amoke again.
Thanks to everybody for coming, we we have appreciated your show!

Special thanks to:
Roger and Rico from KSG for their helping hands. Timmy our Speaker (epic!), all the judges, our counting girl miki, jimmy at the grill, freestyleTV.ch for filming, the motivated crew form Volcom Switzerland, Lorenz Richard for the pics, and all the parents who brought their kids to the show.
