DEWTOUR Championships Las Vegas 2011

50 Cent and Dew Cup Contenders Land At Hard Rock Hotel In Las Vegas

The Dew Tour Championships presented by GoDaddy.com will take over Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas October 13-16.  The four day action sports event culminates a season-long tour in which the top athletes in skate street and vert, and BMX park, dirt and vert will be awarded the Dew Cup.  The weekend will also feature a freestyle motocross Hart & Huntington Best Whip contest and a 50 Cent concert in The Joint.

Ryan Decenzo and Paul Rodriguez have each earned a first place podium finish this year, positioning them to make a run for the overall win of the skate street Dew Cup.  Manny Santiago and Greg Lutzka, strong contenders throughout the season, will not make it easy for those in the top spot.  Each skater will bring their own style to the course, designed specifically for the last stop of the season.  Combined for the night in famed concert venue The Joint, the Street Skate Final will be followed by a 50 Cent concert, making for a unique Las Vegas skate street contest experience.

Sunday, October 16 will see the action focused at the vert ramp set up over Hard Rock Hotel’s Beach Club pool.  The skate vert standings find Pierre-Luc Gagnon in first place following his win in Salt Lake City, with vert legend Bucky Lasek closely trailing behind in second.  Shaun White will aim to bring his gold standard to the Championship competition, with the anticipation of a possible new trick.  BMX vert features a close race between six-time Dew Cup champion Jamie Bestwick and Steve McCann, who upset Bestwick’s winning streak when he pulled out a win in Salt Lake City with a no-handed 900.

BMX park and dirt competitions are stacked with rising young stars and breakout rookies.  Kyle Baldock, in his first year on the Dew Tour, came through Qualifiers in Ocean City to take the first place win in park, blowing open his lead for the Dew Cup after placing second in Portland, where he fell short to contender Scotty Cranmer.  The BMX dirt course, designed by Las Vegas local TJ Lavin, will be home to another heated competition in Vegas.  Dennis Enarson has been a strong Dew Tour competitor since turning pro in 2007, but has yet to earn his Dew Cup.  He will look to hold his current standing in first place over 17-year-old phenom Brett Banasiewicz, who wowed the crowd on the technical and challenging course in Salt Lake City.

Hart & Huntington will be partnering with the Dew Tour once again to bring freestyle motocross to the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas.  Led by FMX legend and Vegas local Carey Hart, the Best Whip contest will feature some of the biggest names in motocross, including Ronnie Renner, Beau Bamburg and Todd Potter.  Crowds will watch as the riders showcase their best moves set against the Vegas skyline.

A Win in Vegas Means a Dew Cup for Decenzo or P-Rod

In his third year competing on Dew Tour, Canadian street skater Ryan Decenzo heads into the Dew Tour Championships with the overall lead. He’s trailed by Paul Rodriguez, and either guy can take home the Cup with a win in Vegas.

Concrete street courses made for some heated competition on the Dew Tour this season. P-Rod earned the first street win of the season in Portland while Decenzo took second. Next up was Salt Lake City, where Decenzo won and P-Rod finished in third.

“I started off really rough so I’m happy that I was able to fight my way up and get onto the podium and still keep myself in the race for the Dew Cup,” Rodriguez said after Salt Lake. “I definitely have some work to do but I’m still in a position where it’s possible.”

For the event in Las Vegas, the concrete will be poured inside the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

“I’m pumped for Vegas to see what the course looks like,” Decenzo said after Salt Lake. “This was an awesome setup here so I’m just pumped to skate there and watch everybody else skate.”

Course designs have been released and the layout is so sectional that it will become a battle of consistency and technical abilities on rails and hubbas. To see who walks away with the Cup, tickets are available to check out the skate street finals Friday night, followed by a 50 Cent concert included in the ticket price.
